ROOSEVELT, Theodore Jr; 25th Vice President and 26th President of the United States; born in New York City, NY. on October 27, 1858; schooled at home by tutors; enrolled at Harvard College in 1876 and earned an A.B.; enrolled at Columbia Law School; commissioned the New York City National Guard on 1882; elected to the New York State Assembly in 1882; reelected in 1883 and 1884; moved to Medora, North Dakota to pursue employment as a cowboy and deputy sheriff; appointed to the United States Civil Service Commission in 1889; appointed to the board of the New York City Police Commissioners in 1895; appointed Assistant Secretary of the Navy in 1897; formed the First US Volunteer Cavalry Regiment in 1898 and served in the Spanish-American war; elected Governor of New York in 1898; elected as Republican Vice President on the ticket of William Mckinley in 1900; on the death of President McKinley was sworn in as President of the United States on September 14th, 1901 at Ansley Wilcox House in Buffalo, NY.; elected President of the United States in 1904; declined to run for a third term in 1908; retired to Safari in Africa; unsuccessful Progressive Party candidate for President of the United States in 1912; retired to form the Roosevelt-Rondon Scientific Expedition into Brazil in 1913; declined to run for election in 1916; died of a blood clot on January 5, 1919; funeral procession through New York City; internment in Oyster Bay, NY.
